
Griffin Named Big 12 Men's Golfer of the Month

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech sophomore golfer Will Griffin has been named the Big 12 Men's Golfer of the Month in a release by the Big 12 Conference Wednesday night. Griffin, who received the award for his play in tournaments as of Oct. 9, was also tabbed as College Men's Player of the Week by Golf World.
A native of San Antonio, Texas (Alamo Heights High School), Griffin opened the fall with a one-under 215 to tie for sixth place and lead the Red Raiders past two top 10 schools at the Carpet Capital Collegiate, an event packed with several Top 25 programs.
Griffin followed it up by birdying the final two holes of the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate to claim a share of medalist honors at three-under 213 and lead Tech to the team title, its first since March 2006. He is currently ranked No. 13 nationally by Golfweek and carries a 71.3 stroke average to lead the No. 11 ranked Red Raiders.
Tech men's golf will compete in its fourth tournament of the fall on Oct. 14-16 at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate.
