Red Raiders Defeat No. 17 Missouri, 3-1

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Red Raider soccer team defeated the Missouri Tigers, 3-1, on Friday night in Columbia, Missouri. Tech will travel to Ames, Iowa, on Sun., Oct. 1, to take on the Iowa State Cyclones. The match is slated for 1 p.m.
Freshman forward Brittney Harrison got the first goal of the match at the 17:17 minute with an assist by Chessa Purser. The Tigers tied it up at the 24th minute when Meghan Pfeiffer recorded a goal. The match was sent to halftime tied, 1-1.
The Red Raiders came out strong in the second half. Tech held the Missouri offense and were able to tally two more goals. Junior forward Priscilla Esquivel recorded a goal in the 49th minute. At the 51:02 mark, Harrison tallied her second goal of the night. Harrison's goal gave Tech the 3-1 advantage.
The Red Raiders improve to 5-6 overall and 1-2 in conference after the win. Missouri drops to 8-3 overall and 0-2 for Big 12.
"Tonight's performance was pleasing on a number of fronts. First, we are excited to get our first conference win in quite some time. Secondly, was the way the players handled themselves during a torrid game against a very good Missouri soccer team who are well coached and playing with a great deal of confidence. We hope this is a win that will give our players the belief they should have in themselves as we head deep into conference play. Each of our young ladies should be proud of themselves in the way the represented Texas Tech this evening."
Red Raiders will take a break from Big 12 action on Oct. 6 as they face South Dakota State at 7 p.m. in Brooksing, South Dakota. Tech will get back into conference play on Oct. 8 when they will travel to Lincoln, Neb., to face Nebraska at 12 p.m.
