LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech fell to No. 16 Texas by a score of 2-0 at R.P. Fuller Stadium on Friday night. It was the Big 12 conference opener for both the Red Raiders and Longhorns.

The Longhorns got their offense started early in the second period when senior midfielder Carrie Schmit scored a goal at the 53:09 mark. Schmit recorded her second goal of the night in the 75th minute, giving Texas a 2-0 advantage. The Red Raider defense held junior forward Kelsey Carpenter to two shots in the match. Carpenter is averaging almost four shots per match this season.
"What a wonderful spectacle for the fans," said head coach Neil McGuire. "Our players proved to themselves they can compete with the very best in this conference, and deserved to take something from the game. We had chances to score and with the right bounce could have scored several times. Texas is a first class team, and very well coached. I am proud of the players."
