Tech Slips to 16th Place at Carpet Capital

ROCKY FACE, Ga. - Despite shooting three shots better, the Texas Tech men's golf team fell to 16th place after the second round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic in Rocky Face, Ga. The team fired a 6-over 294 on Saturday, bringing the team to a two-round total of 591, 15-over-par.
Oscar Floren, who finished the first round with a 7-over 79, fired the best round on the day for the Red Raiders with a 1-under 71. Floren moved up to a tie for 60th after finishing day one tied for 83rd. Continuing to pace Tech is Jake Younan-Wise, who found more of a struggle on the course during the second round. After a 5-under-par through one round, Younan-Wise ended the day with a 3-over 75. He is currently tied for 16th, one shot back from the top 10.
Remaining consistent for the Raiders was Santiago Rivas, who has rounds of 74-73--147 and is currently tied for 46th. Also competing for Texas Tech are Will Griffin and Jeremy Martin. Griffin shot two strokes better to finish with a second-round 75 but fell slightly to a tie for 72nd. Martin shaved seven strokes from his first round total, to finish with a 77 on the day and into a tied for 89th.
Clemson overtook Alabama for the lead in the team standings, as the Tigers have turned in rounds of 278-280--558 (-18 ). The Crimson Tide is currently in second with a two-round score of 562, 14-under-par. Atop the individual leaderboard is Darren Blair of NC State with rounds of 65-69--134, 10-under-par.
