LUBBOCK, Texas -- For the final time this season, the Texas Tech softball team will take to their home field as they host the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners in a doubleheader on Wednesday at Rocky Johnson Field. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
The Red Raiders are looking to bounce back from a pair of heartbreaking losses to No. 17 Nebraska over the weekend. During the series a scrappy Tech team fought hard to take a seventh inning lead in both contests against the `Huskers, but the Red Raiders could not close the deal. In Sunday's contest, the two teams played even through nine innings, until a late Nebraska rally in the 10th inning.
Sophomore outfielder Whitney Riley, who posted a 10-game hitting streak earlier this season, is showing flashes of that success at the plate lately as she has collected four hits in her last three games, including three base knocks, including a pair of doubles, in the series final against Nebraska.
The UTSA series will be the last home action for the three Red Raider seniors on the team -- Erin Crawford, Julie Hauck and Amanda Oakes. The trio was honored prior to last Sunday's game during senior day, but will take the field in Lubbock for the final time in their careers on Wednesday.
The Roadrunners are hot coming into the series as they are winners of 13 straight contests. For the season, UTSA stands at 29-11 overall and the team sits in second place in the Southland Conference standings with a 19-5 league mark, trailing only Texas State.
