
Red Raiders Face Miners in El Paso

The Texas Tech Red Raiders (4-2) meet the UTEP Miners (3-1) on Saturday afternoon at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso for their first road game of the 2006-2007 season. The game begins at 2:00 PM (Central) --- 1:00 PM (Mountain).
The game will be televised on the Texas Tech Television Network with Dave Shore delivering the play-by-play. John Harris will provide the analysis. In Lubbock, the game can be seen on KLBK-TV (Channel 13). The 30-minute pre-game show will begin at 1:30 PM (Central). In Houston, the game will air on KTBU-TV (Channel 55) and in Dallas on KFWD-TV (Channel 52). The satellite coordinates for the game are: Galaxy 11 Transponder K 20.
The Raiders opened the 2006-2007 season with four wins (Sam Houston State, Gardner-Webb, UALR, and North Dakota State) and then suffered two neutral-site losses to #16 Marquette and Air Force in the CBE Classic semi-finals and consolation game last Monday and Tuesday.
UTEP is the first of four road games the Red Raiders have until they return to the United Spirit Arena on December 9 against Centenary. The Raiders face TCU on November 29, Stanford in San Jose for the Pete Newell Challenge on December 3, and Louisiana Tech on December 6.
Texas Tech holds a 33-13 margin over UTEP since the series began on January 9, 1931. The Raiders have won the five previous meetings against the Miners and have a 13-9 edge when the teams have played in El Paso. Last season, the Raiders won at home, 61-60.
The Raiders have two players averaging double-figures for the season in Jarrius Jackson (21.7) and Martin Zeno (13.5).
The UTEP Miners downed Penn (69-66) and New York's St. Francis (54-52) in the BCA Invitational in Syracuse, NY, before losing to The Orange, 83-69 on November 12. The Miners edged UC Davis, 80-76, at home on November 16 in their last game before hosting the Red Raiders.
For each game this season, Steve Dale will call the courtside action along with Ted Chidester as analyst on the Texas Tech Sports Network (KKAM 1340 AM), the flagship station for the Red Raiders. The 2006-2007 Red Raiders feature eight new players and ten returnees on their 18-man roster this season. There are five seniors (Darryl Dora, Jarrius Jackson, Tanner Ogden, Jon Plefka, and LucQuente White); four juniors (Charlie Burgess, Tyler Hoffmeister, Esmir Rizvic, and Martin Zeno); seven sophomores (Trevor Cook, Rogdrick Craig, Jay Mitchell, Michael Prince, Damir Suljagic, Benny Valentine, and Alan Voskuil); and two freshmen (Decensae White and Justin Wilkerson).
As the Red Raiders continue the non-conference portion of the 2006-2007 season, Bob Knight has 873 career wins and is poised to pass Adolph Rupp (876) and Dean Smith (879) to become the all-time career wins leader.
