Lady Raiders in Hawaii - Gallery I
Aloha!
We finally made it to Honolulu on Wednesday afternoon after an eight and a half hour flight from Dallas.
Once we got here, we went and checked into our hotel. We all took showers as it had been a really long day on the airplane. A few of the girls went out to the beach before we went and ate as a team, but we couldn't see much since it was dark outside. We ate at an Italian restaurant where we had spaghetti and meat balls and pumpkin tar-tar. After we ate, we watched film as a team. Then I went to see my grandparents who also made the trip to Honolulu. I was really tired so I headed back to my room and my roommate "Irene" better know as Erin (Myrick) was already asleep. It was around nine o'clock and I was headed to bed.
I woke up this morning at 6 a.m., since I went to bed so early here. There is a four-time difference between here and Lubbock (Hawaii is four hours behind Lubbock). Once I got up, I called my grandparents and we went and ate breakfast at a little café across the street from our resort. It was really good. They had some weird things on their menu, but I just had bacon and eggs. We then went and walked around the beach for a little bit. It was already warm out and it wasn't even 9 a.m. yet.
The team met at 9 a.m. for a quick breakfast in one of our rooms. I didn't eat since I had already eaten with my grandparents. Kelsey (Curry) and Kendall (Curry) took me, Jordan (Murphree), Alesha (Robertson) and Natalie (Thomas) to see the penguins, parrots and flamingos. We then took Kelsey and Kendall to the beach before we went to practice.
We practiced for an hour and a half at the arena on Hawaii's campus. We returned to the hotel and were on our own until our banquet later in the evening. We swam in the ocean and tried to use our boogie boards, but the waves were not big enough. Then Erin and I had races in the pool, and I beat her.
We came back and got ready for the Thanksgiving Day Banquet. We, the team and staff and all the fans, went to the banquet with all of the other seven teams in the tournament. We had all the traditional Thanksgiving Day food, plus some other things as well. When we were at the banquet, each coach introduced his or her team and when they said Texas Tech, we had the biggest cheering section. Some of the other coaches commented about how many of the Lady Raider Nation came with us and how loud they were.
Now I am back at the hotel and writing my journal and watching Grey's Anatomy before we have to be in bed.
Tomorrow (Friday) is our first game against Hawai'i at 9:30 p.m. Lubbock time. We are excited to have so many people here to cheer us on and hope the people who couldn't make the trip are able to listen to us on the radio.
Take care and we will see you when we get back to Lubbock.
Aloha,
Brooke Baughman
