Lubbock, Texas - The Texas Tech men's basketball program has added two additional freshman players to the Class of 2007 with TTU's compliance office validating the paperwork of Darryl Ashford and A. J. Hardeman.
Darryl Ashford from Houston's Cypress Falls High School is currently enrolled at New Hampton Prep in New Hampshire. The Cypress Falls Eagles went 31-4 in his senior season under the direction of Jim Draudt. Ashford, a 6-foot-4, 175 pound forward averaged 16.2 points and 9.2 rebounds per game enroute to earning All Region honors, First Team All District, and Newcomer of the Year in District 17 - 5A in his senior season.
A. J. Hardeman from Del Valle High School said he wanted to play at Texas Tech as soon as Bob Knight was announced as the Red Raider coach in 2001. The 6-8, 185-pound forward made the All-Region Team in 2005-2006 and was named to the first-team All-Central Texas as a junior.
Ashford and Hardeman join a stellar freshman class for the Red Raiders. Three earlier freshmen signees are very highly rated among the best players in the state. Mike Singletary is considered the No. 5 player in Texas, John Roberson is rated as the No. 6 player in the state, and D'Walyn Roberts is listed as the No. 11 player in Texas. The five Texas freshmen will be joined by Sao Paulo, Brazil's Ricardo De Bem, a 6-10, 240-pound player at Western Nebraska Community College in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.
