
Texas Tech Tied No. 12 Oklahoma State

LUBBOCK, Texas - Despite the heavy rainfall at R.P. Fuller Stadium the Texas Tech women's soccer team was able to keep up with No. 12 Oklahoma State. The match on Sunday afternoon ended in a double overtime tie, 2-2.
The Oklahoma State Cowgirls were able to gain the lead in the 36th minute of the match. Senior forward Jesyca Rosholt recorded the first goal of the match. Rosholt scored off of an assist by Yolanda Odenyo. Odenyo kicked the ball off of Tina Rincon and Rosholt tapped in the rebound. The Cowgirls edged the Red Raiders with five corner kicks the first half. Tech nabbed one corner kick the entire half.
The Texas Tech offense came out in the second half and dominated Oklahoma State for the majority of the period. Freshman Sarabeth Clopton tallied a goal to tie the match, 1-1. Clopton headed the ball in the goal off of a free kick by freshman Brittani Hamilton in the 53rd minute. Tech got another shot by Oklahoma State's goalkeeper Erin Stigler, but it was called back because of a hand ball by a Red Raider. At the 71:20 mark Sophomore Chessa Purser would record another Red Raider goal to give Tech the lead. Purser hit the cross path off of an assist by freshman Brittany Harrison to score. Tech had its first lead of the match, 2-1. With seven minutes remaining in the match, senior Katie Lacey would score for the Cowgirls to tie the match. At the 86:55 mark Maegan Wilber collected a shot on goal, but Erin Stigler would record a save for the Cowgirls and send the match into overtime, 2-2.
Goalkeepers Tina Rincon and Stigler stayed in for the entire match. In the first overtime period, Texas Tech would collect two shots but could not record a goal. Freshman Megan Hoffert recorded a shot on goal with six minutes remaining, but the Cowgirls collected a save off of it. In the second overtime, Oklahoma State recorded four shots and the Red Raiders tallied two shots. Neither team could collect a goal. The match ended in a double overtime tie, 2-2.
The Red Raiders out shot the nationally ranked Cowgirls, 24-21, with 11 of them being shots on goal.
"I am very happy with the way we played today," said head coach Neil McGuire. "To compete with, and outshoot a team ranked 12th in the nation shows we are closing in on the upper echelons of college soccer. Oklahoma State is a fantastic team who are very well coached. I give credit to our players for their efforts in very trying conditions. We still have it all to play for in terms of Big 12 play." Oklahoma State is 11-2-2 overall and 6-1-1 in Big 12 after the match against Texas Tech. The Red Raiders are 0-1-2 in overtime matches this season.
The Red Raiders will hit the road for their last road trip on Oct. 20 as they face Colorado in Boulder, Co., at 5 p.m. On Oct. 22 Tech will travel to Lawrence, Kan., to face Kansas at 1 p.m. The Red Raiders will return to R.P. Fuller Stadium for their last match of the season as they host the Baylor Bears on Oct. 27 at 7 p.m.Senior Ana Morton will be recognized as she will play her final match at R.P. Fuller Stadium against the Baylor Bears.
