HOUSTON - Play at the Spring-Klein park in Houston, has been rescheduled for Friday, October 13 as the Red Raiders will now face Blinn College at 8 p.m. Saturday's games, opponents to be re-determined, will be at 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. as the team plays its first competitions of the season. Play will conclude Sunday, October 15 at 11 a.m.
The round-robin tournament is considered fall practices and as such do not count in NCAA records, but the team views the opportunities as invaluable.
"We get four full weeks of practice (with our entire team) during our fall season and so these games become extremely important to our development," Head Coach Teresa Wilson commented. "Our team has been working exceptionally hard and is looking forward to taking our game to the field against other competition."
The 2007 Red Raiders feature a 22-person roster including newcomers Ashly Jacobs and Leah Legler (from Houston), Amanda Myers (from Riverside, Calif.), Danielle Matthews and Rachel Wheeler (from Seattle and Puyallup, Wash., respectively). Texas Tech loses the services of veteran pitchers Erin Crawford and Julie Hauck, along with outfielder Amanda Oakes from last year's squads to graduation.
"We feature younger pitching, with Jacobs and Wheeler joining Sarah Losleben (Jr.), Alex Watkins (Soph.) and Megan Shupp (Soph.) to combine for a dynamic new staff and increased speed and power with the addition of Legler (Fr. OF), Matthews (Fr. 2B) and Myers (Fr. SS)," Wilson, now in her third year at Tech, added. "These games give us the opportunity to try out new combinations and give everyone the opportunity to compete at this level."
The senior class features four, four year starters, Natalie Kula, Brandy Moulin, Ashley Parker and Heather Parker and two-year player Kristen Healy.
"I'm excited about the senior leadership of this team," Wilson added. "And, when you throw in the quality of our junior and sophomore classes, I'm just excited to head to the ballfield!"
With the game times varying from the original schedules, opponents are not certain at this time. However, other teams include: Mississippi Valley, Houston, University of North Texas, Southern Mississippi, UL-Lafayette and UT-San Antonio.
As statistics do not count toward NCAA official records, game recaps and results will be posted, but the stats found on this Web site will remain from the 2006 season until February, when the 2007 season officially begins.
