HENDERSON TIES SCORING RECORD
Taurean Henderson's third touchdown of the night gives him 52 rushing and receiving scores for his career and ties him on the Tech all-time touchdowns list with James Gray, accounted for 52 touchdowns from 1986-89. Henderson also tied Byron Morris in second place on the Tech career rushing touchdowns list with 37.
TECH BREAKS SCORING RECORD
Tech broke a 52-year scoring record with its 80 points tonight. The 1953 team set the previous mark of 71 in a shutout of New Mexico A&M in Lubbock.
QUICK STRIKE OFFENSE
Tech's four first-quarter touchdowns break the old school record of three touchdowns the Red Raiders scored against Baylor in the opening quarter during games in 2001 and 2003. The 28 points also breaks the old first-quarter scoring record of 24, set against Houston in 1995. Tech's 49 points ties the record for first-half points, also set against Baylor in 2001.
REPEAT PERFORMANCE AND MORE...
Apparently, IR Robert Johnson wasn't satisfied with his nine-catch, 129-yard debut against Florida International last week. The junior redshirt and former quarterback amassed 209 yards on eight catches, including 185 yards on seven receptions in the first half. His yardage total is the seventh best single-game performance in school history.
NOTING THE RED RAIDERS
- Tonight's attendance of 50,171 marks the ninth-straight game the Red Raiders have drawn over 50K, dating back to Nov. 1, 2003, against Colorado.
- WR Jarrett Hicks' three-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter gives him 20 for his career and ties him in fifth place (Lloyd Hill, 1989-92) on the Tech all-time list. The Tech career record for touchdown receptions is 22 (Mickey Peters, 2000-03).
- QB Cody Hodges' 67-yard completion to IR Robert Johnson in the second quarter is the longest pass completion of the season. It also is the longest pass completion since Sonny Cumbie's 80-yard completion to Jarrett Hicks against Nebraska last season.
- Texas Tech yielded the opposition its first touchdown of the season when Sam Houston State scored with 9:33 to play in the second quarter.
- Senior DE Brett Bischofberger recorded his first career sack in the second quarter.
- Last year's sacks leader, DE Keyunta Dawson, recorded his first of this year in the second quarter.
- Senior TE Bristol Olomua saw his first action since the Texas game last season.
- Sophomore PK Alex Trlica's 20-yard field goal in the third quarter was his first attempt of the season.
- RB Taurean Henderson's three rushing touchdowns are the most for a Red Raider since Henderson's three rushing scores at Texas in 2003.
- Sophomore RB Taurance Rawls scored the first rushing touchdown of his career in the third quarter.
