
Martinez Qualifies for World University Games

Lubbock, Texas - Dimitrio Martinez, a junior on the Texas Tech men's tennis team, won the National Qualifying Tournament in Mexico City to advance to the World University Games.
Martinez will represent Mexico and Texas Tech in Izmir, Turkey, later this month. Martinez clinched the advancement to the World Games in Mexico City this weekend.
"I'm so proud of Dimitrio," said head men's tennis coach Tim Siegel. "He has worked so hard for this all summer and it's great to see him have such success. I know it's a great honor for him to be representing his country and Texas Tech. The team and I wish him the best of luck at the World Games in Turkey."
During the 2005 season, Martinez won his individual match clinching Tech's victory over Texas A&M. Martinez was also victorious against Wake Forest and Ole Miss playing in the sixth position.
Red Raider tennis will open their fall season at the Texas A&M Invitational, Sept. 9-11, in College Station, Texas.
