Texas Tech Prevails Over Texas Southern, 7-0

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's tennis team started its spring season off with a victory against the Texas Southern Tigers this afternoon, winning all six singles matches and two doubles matches.
In doubles play, senior Esat Tanik teamed up with freshman Adrian Prpic to knock off Martin Knobloch and Oscar Castenada, 8-3. Senior Jakob Paulsen paired up with senior Michael Innerebner to defeat Ivan Avila and Matuesz Wodzinski, 8-3. Senior Ryan Vogl and freshman Chris Ramsey fell to Jose Rueda and Aurelio Martinez, 8-4.
In singles action, Paulsen knocked off Avila, 6-3, 6-1, while Tanik defeated Martinez, 6-3, 6-1. Innerebner beat Wodzinski, 6-2, 6-2, and Prpic defeated Knobloch, 6-0, 6-2. Sophomore Dimitrio Martinez won his match against Rueda, 6-3, 6-3, and sophomore Teddy DiBlasi defeated Andres Camargo, 6-4, 6-0.
"I thought this was a good first match, Texas Southern has a good team, " stated head coach Tim Siegel. "I am pleased with our energy and intensity level, and I think our new guys played well."
The Red Raiders will head to Abilene where they will take on Hardin Simmons Feb. 10, Oral Roberts and Centenary Feb. 11 and Abilene Christian Feb. 12.
