
Szumanski Advances to Quarterfinals at Texas Invitational

Lubbock, Texas - The Texas Tech men's tennis team complete day one of competition at the Texas Invitational, in Austin, Texas, today. Szumanski advanced to the quarterfinals in singles play and, in doubles play, Szumanski and Christian Rojmar also advanced to the quarterfinals.
In round one of singles play, Dimitrio Martinez topped Hubert Chodkiewicz of Texas, 6-3, 6-3. Teddy DiBlasi fell to Vladimir Portnov of Baylor, 6-4, 6-1. Mario Janjic fell to Michael Venus of Texas, 6-3, 6-4. Jay Wofford topped Nigel Barton of Tulane, 6-3, 7-5.
In round two, Szumanski cruised past Joey Farias of Texas A&M- Corpus Christi, 6-0, 6-1. Martinez fell to Diego Mattar of UT-Arlington, 6-3, 5-7, 10-6. Michael Breler fell to Michael Kokta of Baylor, 6-4, 6-1. Rojmar fell to John Nallon of Texas A&M, 9-7, 2-6, 10-8. Wofford fell to Michael Venus of Texas, 6-1, 6-4.
In the round of 16, Szumanski topped Matt Brown of Baylor, 6-1, 7-6.
In the second round of consolation singles, Teddy DiBlasi defeated Nick Meythaler of Virginia, 2-6, 7-6, 10-4.
In the third round of consolation singles, Breler defeated Robin Fernandes of UT-San Antonio, 6-2, 6-3. Rojmar edged Manuel Gonzales of UT-Arlington, 6-1, 6-1. DiBlasi fell to Niels Buksik of UT-Arlington, 6-3, 6-4. Janjic fell to Daniel Omana of UT-Arlington, 3-6, 6-1, 10-8.
In the second round of doubles play, after all teams received a bye, Szumanski and Rojmar topped Gonzales and Mattar of UT-Arlington, 8-3. Breler and Wooten fell to Nallon and Brown of Texas A&M, 8-6. DiBlasi and Wofford fell to Knupfer and Shin of Rice, 8-4.
