STILLWATER, Okla. - The Texas Tech women's soccer team dropped the final match of its weekend road trip to the state of Oklahoma, falling to Oklahoma State by a score of 5-0 on Sunday at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex in Stillwater, Okla.
After a back-and-forth start to the game, the Cowgirls were able to gain the match's first offensive chance, drawing a free kick from 25-yards out in front of the Texas Tech net following a foul. Sophomore defender Niccole Grimaldi fired a cross in front of the net which was headed into the back of the goal by freshman Yolanda Odenyo for the first OSU shot of the game.
At the 37:16 mark of the first period, the Cowgirls were able to extend their lead to 2-0 as Big 12-leading goal scorer Jesyca Rosholt took a pass from midfielder Rachel Grand and converted on an athletic shot from the far right side of the Tech penalty box. The goal was the tenth of the season for Rosholt.
After Texas Tech goalkeeper Beth Lippert made a big save off a corner just moments into the second half, Rosholt struck again, scoring her 11th goal of the season on a header off a pass from forward Candice Byler.
Lippert, who was making her fourth start of the season, registered seven saves in the match, including five in the second half. The Woodinville, Wash., native was replaced by senior Megan Knauss late in the second period.
Oklahoma State pressed its lead to 4-0 in the 62nd minute as Byler converted on a one-touch pass from defender Katie Lacey for her first tally of the season.
Sophomore Priscilla Esquivel and senior Kimmie Davis were able to generate some pressure for the Red Raiders on offense, combining to send seven second half shots towards the OSU net. Esquivel also gave Tech its best scoring chance of the afternoon, firing a shot off the crossbar of the Cowgirl's net in the final minutes of the match.
The Cowgirls were awarded a penalty kick with 20 minutes remaining in the second half after the Red Raiders committed a hand ball foul in the penalty box. Defender Kalyn Brady was able to convert for the fifth OSU goal of the afternoon.
The loss drops Texas Tech's overall record this season to 1-10 and 0-3 in Big 12 play, while Oklahoma State improves to 9-1-2 and 2-1 in conference action.
Next weekend, Texas Tech soccer will be on the road again for a pair of matches. The Red Raiders begin the weekend by taking a break from conference action and traveling to Colorado Springs, Colo., to battle Colorado College. On Sunday Tech will resume Big 12 play as it travels to Austin, Texas, to face in-state rival Texas.
