The Texas Tech men's tennis team (8-3) won two close matches to claim the doubles point, then three singles matches en route a 4-1 victory over the Memphis Tigers, in non-conference action Friday morning in Houston.
Tech started the match with a 9-8 loss at the No. 1 slot before the No. 2 team of Bojan Szumanski and Jakob Paulsen and the No. 3 duo of Michael Innerebner and Teddy DiBlasi weathered 8-5 and 8-6 victories to head into the singles portion of the match up 1-0.
In singles action, the Red Raiders posted victories at the No. 3 slot with Esat Tanik defeating Alex Bucewicz, 6-0, 6-3, while Michael Innerebner beat Marten Tamla, 6-4, 6-4, at the No. 4 position. At the No. 5 spot, Tech's Dinko Halachev won against Mark Fennegan, 7-6, 6-2.
Tech will take on Virginia Tech University, Saturday, at noon. The Hokies are currently ranked No. 59 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll.
