
Red Raiders Face San Francisco

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Red Raiders have their sixth home game of the season as they host the Dons of the University of San Francisco on Saturday afternoon at the United Spirit Arena in the State Farm Bank New Year's Ball. The tip-off will be at 2:05 p.m. This game marks the first meeting between the two teams.
The Red Raiders continue their four-game homestand with the afternoon game and will be seeking their sixth straight home win of the 2004-2005 season against the University of San Francisco. Overall, the Raiders are 6-3 for the non-conference season and won their most recent game against Georgia State 98-56 on Wednesday at the United Spirit Arena.
The Raiders have four players who are averaging in double figures. Curtis Marshall tops the squad with 14 points per game. Jarrius Jackson has led the Raiders in scoring for three games and is averaging 13.6 points per game. Freshman Martin Zeno has started four games and is averaging 13.1 points per game. Senior Ronald Ross completes the list with 11.1 points per game. The Raiders have utilized five different starting line-ups through eight non-conference games. Although Curtis Marshall and Jarrius Jackson have started each game for the Raiders, ten players have seen action in at least eight games this season.
With 838 career victories over 39 seasons, Coach Bob Knight will be on the sidelines for his 1,164 game with the match-up against San Francisco. He is only the fourth coach to amass 800 wins in his career. Jim Phelan retired with 830 wins, the late Adolph Rupp won 876, and Dean Smith leads with 879 career wins.
The Dons are 8-3 in non-conference play this season. San Francisco's Jessie Evans is in his first year at the helm of the USF program. The Dons were 17-14 last season and 7-7 in the West Coast Conference.
The Texas Tech/San Francisco game will air in Lubbock on the local UPN channel. The game is also televised on KFWD-TV (channel 52) in the Metroplex.
