LUBBOCK, Texas - Red Raider WR Jarrett Hicks (Houston, Texas) was named to the Associated Press first team after leading the Big 12 Conference with 100.7 receiving yards per game. Four other players were selected to the second team.
Hicks, the only receiver in the league with 1,000 receiving yards, has 1,108 yards and a league-leading 11 touchdown catches. His total also is one shy of the Tech single-season record set by Lloyd Hill (1992) and Mickey Peters (2003). He was named to the Big 12 Coaches second team earlier this week.
Senior C Dylan Gandy (Pflugerville, Texas), senior OT Daniel Loper (Houston, Texas), senior DE Adell Duckett (Mineral Wells, Texas) and senior LB Mike Smith (Lubbock, Texas) earned second-team honors. Gandy is in his first season as the starter at center, while Loper leads the offensive line with 43-career starts at tackle. Duckett and Smith led a Tech defense that currently ranks 42nd nationally after finishing the 2003 season near the bottom of the national rankings.
Additionally, 10 Red Raiders were named to the honorable mention team, including senior QB Sonny Cumbie (Snyder, Texas), senior OG Cody Campbell (Canyon, Texas), sophomore OG Manuel Ramirez (Houston, Texas), senior receiver Nehemiah Glover (LaMarque, Texas), senior IR Trey Haverty (Richardson, Texas), junior RB Taurean Henderson (Gatesville, Texas), sophomore LB Brock Stratton (San Antonio, Texas), sophomore CB Antonio Huffman (Lovejoy, Ga.) and junior FS Vincent Meeks (Dallas, Texas). True freshman Danny Amendola (The Woodlands, Texas) was named honorable mention as the all-purpose player. Amendola was named to the Big 12 Coaches first team earlier in the week.
