
Texas Tech Meets Iowa in Chicago

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Red Raiders have their second neutral site game of the season as they face the Hawkeyes of Iowa at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois on Tuesday, December 21. The tip-off will be at 6:00 p.m.
The game will be televised on ESPN. Brad Nessler will call the play-by-play and Fran Fraschilla will provide the color analysis. Stacey Dales-Schuman will be the sideline reporter.
Texas Tech is 5-2 for the non-conference season. The Raiders downed UNC Asheville in their season opener 119-55, then fell to TCU on the road 83-68, and regained their winning ways with a 93-41 win over Centenary at the United Spirit Arena on November 27. They outdistanced the SMU Mustangs 105-67 on December 1, and then topped UTEP in El Paso 72-57 three days later. Tech met former Border Conference foe Northern Arizona on December 7 and earned an 81-65 win. The Raiders fell to the Ohio State Buckeyes at the American Airlines Center in their last outing 77-71. This game marks the fifth meeting between the two teams. Last season the Raiders downed the Hawkeyes 65-59 in Dallas on December 22 for their first win against the Hawkeyes.
Five current Red Raiders played in December's game. Devonne Giles had 2 blocks and a steal off the bench and Ronald Ross dished out 4 assists and scored 9 points. Jarrius Jackson added 6 points and 4 assists. In a starting role, Darryl Dora had 6 points and 6 rebounds. LucQuente White made both free throw attempts.
Texas Tech (5-2) has five players averaging double figures. Curtis Marshall leads the squad with 15.6 ppg. Martin Zeno is next with 13.4 ppg and 4.1 assists per game. Jarrius Jackson is averaging 12.6 ppg. Ronald Ross is the fourth Red Raider to average double figures with 12.1 ppg. Devonne Giles completes the list with 10.9 points per game.
Last season, Iowa was paced by Pierre Pierce's 18 points. This season, the Hawkeyes are 9-1 and have their first four starters averaging at least 13 points. Jeff Horner leads the group with 16.5 ppg and 6.7 assists per game. Pierre Pierce is next in scoring with 16.4 ppg. Greg Brunner averages 13.1 ppg and 7.1 rebounds per game. Adam Haluska is averaging 13.0 ppg.
Mark Finkner will call the courtside action for Texas Tech and former Red Raider Chris Cassidy will provide the analysis on KKAM (1340 AM), the flagship station for the Red Raiders.

After the Iowa game, Texas Tech resumes play at the United Spirit Arena for their three final non-conference games of the season. On December 29 the Raiders host the Panthers of Georgia State. Tech then faces the University of San Francisco Dons at 2 PM on New Year's Day. The final non-conference game will be on January 4 at 7 PM against the University of Northern Colorado.
