LINCOLN, Nebraska- The Texas Tech women's soccer team fell to the Cornhuskers of Nebraska, 3-0, this evening. Junior Megan Knauss started in goal for Tech and made seven saves during her 90 minutes of action. The Red Raiders also had seven players participate in the entire 90 minutes of action.
Despite the scoreboard, the Red Raiders had one of their strongest showings in Big 12 action. Carrying over the intensity from the second half of the Oklahoma match, Tech came out fighting against the Cornhuskers. The Tech defenders held the Big 12's leading point and goal scorer, Brittany Timko, to one assist on the evening. The Red Raiders halted the Big 12 ranked Cornhusker offense, limiting it to just 10 shots on goal.
Offensively, the Red Raiders added more to a season of improvements. The Tech offense tallied three shots on goal from sophomores Jennifer Vasquez and Jenna Wetzel and senior Allison Seifert.
Junior Megan Knauss made her fifth start in net for Tech. She notched seven saves during the match and raised her save season total to 28.
"I am very proud of the way we played tonight," said head coach Felix Oskam. "The final score of the game doesn't indicate how close the game actually was. We played extremely well and we played with a great amount of confidence, especially in the first half."
Red Raider soccer returns to the pitch Sun., Oct. 17, at 12:30 p.m., as they take on the Buffaloes of Colorado.
