DALLAS, Texas - 25th-ranked SMU scored a goal in each half and the Mustangs dropped Texas Tech to 0-2 on the season with a 2-0 win on Friday night at Westcott Field in Dallas.
SMU took a 1-0 lead into the locker room at halftime when Morgan Field scored on a deflection with 1:42 left to go in the first half. SMU pushed its lead to 2-0 at the 74:13 mark in the second half when Kim Harvey scored on an open net.
SMU out-shot Texas Tech 10-4 on the night with Tech goalkeeper Megan Knauss recording a game-high seven saves.
"This was by far the best we have played this year but unfortunately we just got beat by a great team," said head coach Felix Oskam. "We made a couple of mental mistakes and SMU quickly capitalized on them and that's what good teams do."
Texas Tech returns to action on Sunday as they will take on the TCU Horned Frogs at Garvey Rosenthal Stadium on the TCU campus beginning at 1 p.m.
