LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech head men's golf coach Greg Sands announced today that Oscar Floren will join the Red Raider golf program in the fall. Floren, a native of Hummervagen, Sweden, is the lone newcomer to the program.
"Oscar is going to be a great addition to next year's team," Sands said. "Our top two players this spring were freshmen and, with the addition of Oscar, we are going to have a young, but very talented team. Oscar has enjoyed a wonderful junior career. He is one of the best juniors in the world for the 2003 class and we are fortunate to have him coming to Texas Tech. He will make an immediate impact on our program."
Floren, who also was recruited by South Carolina, 2002 National Champion Minnesota, Auburn and Texas, is currently ranked 11th in the world, according to the National Junior Golf Scoreboard world junior rankings. Among some of his top finishes during the past year is a second-place showing at the American Junor Golf Association's Polo Junior Classic in Orlando, Fla., and a sixth-place finish at the Toyota Junior World Cup in Japan. Floren recently finished as the low amateur in the Kinnaborg Open in May after posting rounds of 69-69-70.
