
Dresser Fires Career-Best 67 at NCAA Central Regional

LUBBOCK, Texas - After posting the fifth-best round of the day, the Texas Tech Red Raider men's golf team jumped from a 24th-place tie after Thursday's first round to a 16th-place tie Friday at the NCAA Central Regional at Colbert Hills Golf Club in Manhattan, Kan.
The Red Raiders tee off in the final round Saturday at 11:51 a.m. with a shot at advancing to the NCAA Championships in Stillwater, Okla., at the end of the month. Tech will tee off with Lamar and Michigan State, both tied in 16th place with the Red Raiders. The top 10 teams from the regional round will advance to the NCAA Championships at the end of the month in Stillwater, Okla.
No performance in tournament play on Friday topped that of Texas Tech freshman Andrew Dresser (Carrollton, Texas/Creekview). Dresser, who has been the Tech leader throughout the spring, dominated the field with a low-round 67 to improve from a 111th-place tie Thursday to a 16th-place tie Friday. Dresser entered the tournament averaging 73.7 strokes per round and shot a 76 in the first round prior to Friday's career-best five-under par. He is 1-under par for the tournament.
Senior Brooks Kelly (Sierra Vista, Ariz./Buena) dropped a spot and is tied in 59th place, while senior Mark Hull (San Antonio, Texas/Churchill), who was tied for 20th Thursday, fell to a 70th-place tie with a round of 79.
Tech freshman Erik Stenman (Tampere, Finland) shot an even-par 72 and is tied in 98th place after tying in the 134th spot Thursday. Junior Brad Jacobson (Bryant, S.D./Hamlin) is tied in 136th place.
The University of Illinois maintained its lead from day one and holds a two-stroke advantage over the rest of the field. North Carolina State is second, followed by Oklahoma State and Wichita State in third and fourth, respectively, and North Carolina, SMU and Arkansas in a three-way tie for fifth. The Red Raiders are currently five shots out of the top 10.
