
Men's Tennis Gets Regional ITA Rankings

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its 2003 fall regional rankings and the Red Raiders' doubles team of Michael Innerebner and Esat Tanik are ranked No. 8 in the Southwest Region, while in singles, Tanik is ranked 17th, Jakob Paulsen is 24th and Bojan Szumanski is 30th.
Innerebener (Bolzano, Italy) and Tanik (Istanbul, Turkey) finished the fall with a 4-1 record as Texas Tech's No. 1 doubles team. The duo is one of seven Big 12 doubles teams ranked in the top 15 in the region.
Tanik went 3-4 in the fall in singles, while Paulsen (Idestrup, Denmark) posted a 5-2 mark and Szumanski (Opole, Poland) finished at 5-4. The three are among 15 Big 12 players who are ranked in the top 30 in the Southwest Region.
The Red Raiders will open their spring season Feb. 1 against Lamar in Lubbock at the McLeod Tennis Center.
