
Texas Tech Travels to Dallas to Face the SMU Mustangs

Dallas, TX - Preseason NIT runner-up Texas Tech travels to Dallas to face the SMU Mustangs at Moody Coliseum at 7:00 p.m. Monday night. Tonight's game marks the 103rd meeting between the Raiders and the Mustangs. Tech leads the series 56-46. Last season, the Raiders downed the Mustangs 77-59 at the United Spirit Arena. Robert Tomaszek led the Raider scoring with 19 points. Quinton Ross (SMU) led all scorers with 28 points.
The Mustangs return four starters from last year's 17-13 squad. SMU is playing their third game of the 2003-2004 season are 1-1 going into the game tonight against the Raiders. The Mustangs opened their season with a ten-point win over Texas-Pan American (69-59) and then dropped a close match-up (68-65) on the road against the University of San Diego on November 28.
The Raiders opened the 2003-2004 season with wins over Davidson, UMass, and East Tennessee State before traveling to New York City for the semi-finals and finals of the Preseason NIT at Madison Square Garden. Tech downed the Utah Utes 65-54 in the first semi-final game and would play the winner of the second semi-final game of the evening at the Garden...(1)UConn vs. Georgia Tech. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets dropped (1)UConn to advance into the finals and then downed the Raiders to garner the 2003-2004 Preseason NIT Championship.
Texas Tech returned home on Saturday as the 2003-2004 Preseason NIT Runnerup and then departed for Dallas on Sunday to take on the SMU Mustangs. Tonight's game is not televised but can be heard on KKAM (1340 AM) with the play-by-play being called by Mark Finkner. Michael Lewis will provide the analysis.
The Raiders return to the United Spirit Arena on Wednesday as they host the UTEP Miners. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and will be televised outside the Lubbock area on the Texas Tech Television Network.
