FORT WORTH, Texas - The Texas Tech men's tennis team wrapped up the final day of competition in Fort Worth at the ITA Regionals. The Raiders advanced one team to the semifinal round in the doubles consolation bracket, but fell short of a final victory.
"Overall it was a very good week. We wanted to accomplish one thing this weekend, for everyone to go out and compete hard, and we accomplished that," stated head coach Tim Siegel. "We know where we are weak, and now know what we need to do to improve on those weaknesses."
In the singles consolation bracket, junior Michael Innerebner was defeated by Amanjet Singh (Univ. Louisiana-Lafayette), 6-1, 6-1, to be bumped from competition. In singles main draw action, junior Esat Tanik was knocked out of play by first seeded Robert Searle (Rice), 6-3, 6-2, while fellow junior Jakob Paulsen was also defeated by third seeded Benjamin Becker (Baylor), 6-4, 6-2.
In the quarterfinal round of the doubles consolation bracket, freshmen Teddy DiBlasi and Bojan Szumanski defeated Rodrigo Gabriel and Takehiko Morita (Rice), 8-5. DiBlasi and Szumanski advanced to the semifinal round where they were defeated by Andy Mack and Will Clinton (Texas), 8-4.
