
Tech Softball to Open Fall Season this Weekend

LUBBOCK, Texas - This weekend the Texas Tech softball team will open its 2002 fall schedule with six games over the weekend in the first of two tournaments being held at Rocky Johnson field.
Armed with several returning starters from last season and a pair of new assistant coaches, the Red Raiders will look to get at its talent for the upcoming spring season.
Senior Kristi Robles (Morgan Hills, Calif.) and junior Andrea Joachims (Portland, Ore.) will be looked upon to anchor the infield while the pitching duties will fall on the shoulders of a pair of sophomores in Amie Stines (Grand Praire, Texas) and Kristina Blair (Petaluma, Calif.). In the outfield, Tech returns four players that all saw action in 2001.
This weekend's tournament will consist of seven schools that will each play in six games on two fields. The Rock will be the main field, while other games will utilize the intramural fields adjacent to the softball complex for other match-ups.
