STILLWATER, Oklahoma - Freshman Beth Lippert (Woodinville, Wash.) made five saves, but it was not enough to propel the Red Raiders past Oklahoma State as the Texas Tech women's soccer team fell to the Cowgirls 2-0 in Stillwater, Okla., on Friday night in both team's conference opening match. With the loss, the Red Raiders set a school record with their seventh consecutive loss.
The Red Raiders (2-7-0, 0-1-0 Big 12) played well in the first half, limiting Oklahoma State to only six shots and no goals in the half and forced the Cowgirl attackers offsides six times in the match. The Red Raiders took five shots in the period and went to the locker room with the game scoreless.
In the second half, the Cowgirls (9-0-0, 1-0-0 Big 12), the Big 12's only unbeaten team, came out firing and out shot the Red Raiders 11 to 3, but Lippert was able to keep Tech in the match until the 65th minute when OSU's Marcela Nova scored the game's first goal. In the 82nd minute, Tech inadvertently scored in its own goal to give the Cowgirls a late 2-0 lead. Junior Catie Arsenault (Keller, Texas) received the game's only yellow card in the 85th minute.
The Red Raiders will look to even their Big 12 record at 1-1 as they battle the Oklahoma Sooners on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. in Norman, Okla. Tech will be back in action at home next weekend, as it hosts Missouri on Friday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m. at R.P. Fuller Stadium.
