OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Big 12 Conference announced its individual honors for the 2002 season this afternoon at the seventh annual Big 12 softball banquet in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Tech shortstop Kristi Robles was the lone Red Raider to take home all-Big 12 honors at the banquet, as she was named to the second team.
In her first season at Tech, the Santa Clara, Calif., native hit .278 and led the team in several offensive categories including runs scored, doubles, and RBIs.
"This is definitely an honor," stated Robles. "There were only two shortstops honored and [Kelli Braitch] is a great player. I feel like I was ready for the competition in the Big 12. Honestly, I was surprised that I made any team. I didn't feel like I had that good of a season, but it is definitely an honor."
The Red Raiders will try to play their way into the Big 12 Tournament as the ten seed this evening at 5 p.m. as they take on the seventh seeded Kansas Jayhawks in a play-in game at Don Porter ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Okla. The winner of the play-in game will advance to play the second seeded Oklahoma Sooners immediately after the game ends.
