Women's Tennis Tame the Tigers, 5-2

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team came away with its first conference win of the season in Columbus, Mo., earlier today. The Red Raiders won the doubles point and four of the six singles matches to take down Big 12 opponent Missouri, 5-2.
Red Raiders Alenka Ovin, Beverly Dawson, Noel Ruiz and Kendall Brooks won their respective matches in singles play. Ovin defeated MU's Kristina Olshanskaya in two sets, 6-4, 6-2, while Dawson, Ruiz and Brooks took their matches to three sets to defeat the Tigers. Dawson bounced back from a second set loss against Mary Barry of MU to win, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. Ruiz and Brooks lost the first set of their matches but came back to win it all as Ruiz defeated Tiger's Lucie Ruskova, 1-6, 6-3, 7-5, and Brooks defeated MU's Caitlin Thompson, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
The No. 22 tandem of Tereschenko and Dawson took down the No. 26 tandem of MU's Juric and Sevcikova, 8-2. At the No. 3 position, Tech's Ovin and Brooks swept the Tigers' Barry and Thompson, 8-1. Red Raiders Schraml and Ruiz fell to MU's Olshanskaya and Ruskova, 8-2, at the No. 2 position.
The next stop for the women's tennis team is Newport Beach, Calif., where it will take on Cal-State Northridge and No. 14 California on March 12-13.
