Ranked 25th in the latest USA TODAY ESPN Top 25 coaches' poll, the Red Raiders of Texas Tech University travel to Minneapolis, Minn. for their Saturday ESPN televised contest against the Golden Gophers of the University of Minnesota. This marks the ninth game of the 2002-2003 season for the Red Raiders (7-1) and the third away game for the Raiders. The Golden Gophers bring a 6 - 2 record to the scheduled tip-off of 1:00 p.m. This is the second of three non-conference games featuring Texas Tech on ESPN. Sean McDonough will provide the play-by-play. Bill Raftery will serve as color analyst for his second Texas Tech game this season. The next ESPN televised contest for the Red Raiders will be Monday, January 6 as the Raiders conclude their non-conference schedule will a road game against San Diego State. Jack Dale, in his 50th year of broadcasting, will provide the play-by-play action as Michael Lewis sits along side as analyst.
Last season, the Raiders downed the Golden Gophers 80 - 60 at the United Spirit Arena in front of 14,232 fans. At halftime the teams were knotted at 37 points each. The Raiders outdistanced the Gophers by 20 points (43-23) in the second half to raise their record to 10 - 1 in Coach Knight's first season in Lubbock.
