
Texas Tech Topples New Mexico State, 85-84

LUBBOCK, Texas - Andre Emmett scored five of the last seven points for Texas Tech, which held on for an 85-84 win over New Mexico State on Saturday.
Tech led most of the way but New Mexico State battled back and had a chance to tie it with 2.5 seconds remaining. But Allen Haynes missed the second of two free throws to give Tech the win.
Emmett scored 31 points, and Kasib Powell added 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Red Raiders (7-1).
Brandon Mason scored 20 points, and James Moore added 19 to lead the Aggies.
Tech led 49-31 at the half before the Aggies put together 10-4 run to pull within 12. Tech built the lead back up to 19 at 69-50 with 11:33 left.
The Aggies went on a 17-4 run late in the second half to help close the gap.
New Mexico State (7-2) was hampered by poor shooting - 32 percent on 28-of-64. The Aggies hit 11-of-29 from 3-point range.
Tech scored 34 points in the paint.
The matchup was the 44th between Tech coach Bob Knight and Lou Henson of New Mexico State. Knight holds the edge 29-15.
