Texas Tech Player & Coach Quotes
Head Coach Mike Leach
On the game:
"Oklahoma played tremendously well. They might be the best team in the country and certainly played like it today. We didn't respond to the situation very well. Oklahoma has been in this situation and has responded well and we haven't been in it very often and didn't respond well."
On the pressure of the game:
"We have played some tremendously good games up to this point. This was a game where collectively as a team we made more out of it than we should have. I think a lot of the way we played is self-generated pressure. It happens in these situations and you say it shouldn't, but it does."
On OU's defense:
"It's one of America's great defenses, no question. They played with great tempo early. There were really no secrets, they just came out of the block really fast and were explosive early. We started playing on our heels and stayed on our heels."
On OU running back Quentin Griffin:
"He's a great back. He's one of the best in the country."
Senior Quarterback Kliff Kingsbury
On the game:
"You never expect this. They played hard and had a great running game and really beat us in all phases of the game."
On OU defense:
"They're a really good team. They have the best defense I've seen in the past four years. They have great athletes and change up defenses better than most teams. They have a lot of looks and are a well-coached team."
On his sacks for safeties:
"They put a lot of pressure on me and I should have gotten rid of the ball sooner."
Junior Running Back Wes Welker
On OU defense:
"They play so hard. They fly to the football and play real fast. We never got in to the groove of things and when we did, we turned the ball over. We were real sloppy."
On being from Oklahoma:
"I got to play in front of friends and family and I wanted a big win for us. The main thing was playing for the Big 12 South Championship. We should have come to play."
