LUBBOCK, Texas - Freshman goalkeeper Beth Lippert (Woodinville, Wash.) made nine saves, but it was not enough to prevent the Texas Tech women's soccer team from falling to Missouri 5-1 at R. P. Fuller Stadium Friday night.
The Red Raiders (2-9, 0-3 Big 12) fell behind early as Missouri's Lacy Moore scored two goals less that five minutes apart in the first period allowing the Tigers to pull away early. Tech got some momentum heading into halftime, when Catie Arsenault (Keller, Texas) scored on a penalty kick from ten yards out with under a minute to play in the half. The goal sent the team to the locker room down only 3-1. The Tigers out shot the Red Raiders 13 to 7 in the opening frame.
In the second half, Missouri (6-3-2, 1-1-1 Big 12) added a goal by Suzy Probst and Missy Peabody's second goal of the match to take the 5-1 lead. The Tigers defensively suffocated the Red Raiders in the second half, out shooting Tech 14 to 1. Sophomore Michaela Roberts (San Antonio, Texas) led Tech with three shots, two of them on goal.
Tech will be back in action on Sunday afternoon when it battles the Kansas Jayhawks at R.P. Fuller Stadium at 1 p.m.
