COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Sophomore Michaela Roberts (San Antonio, Texas) scored two goals and goalkeeper Lindsay Fish (Dallas, Texas) made 11 saves, but it was not enough to propel the Texas Tech women's soccer team past the No. 6 Texas A&M Aggies as they fell 6-2 Sunday afternoon in College Station, Texas.
Roberts put the Red Raiders (2-12, 0-6 Big 12) up early in the match as she took a pass from junior Catie Arsenault (Keller, Texas) and scored into an open net in the 17th minute to put Tech up 1-0. Texas A&M answered just over five minutes later as Linsey Woodard scored from six yards out off a crossing pass to tie the game at 1-1. Fish made five saves in the first period as the Red Raiders were out shot by a 14-2 mark.
Texas A&M broke the tie just two minutes into the second half as Cristina Echavarry blasted a shot past Fish into the upper right corner to give the Aggies their first lead of the game at 2-1. In the 55th minute it was Roberts again, who broke past the defense and beat Texas A&M's Kati Jo Spisak one-on-one to knot the game up at 2-2. It was all Aggies from that point on, however, as Texas A&M scored four unanswered goals to finish the game with a 6-2 win. With the win, Texas A&M moves to 10-3-1 on the season with a 4-0-1 Big 12 record.
Roberts now has three goals and six points in the team's last three contests, she leads the team with four goals and eight points on the year. This was Robert's first multiple goal game of her career and the first by a Red Raider this season.
Tech will be back in action next weekend as they return home to host the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Friday night at 7 p.m. and the Colorado Buffaloes on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
