
Red Raiders fall to No. 3 Texas

AUSTIN, Texas - The Texas Tech women's soccer team fell to the No. 3 Texas Longhorns 5-1 on Friday night at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas, in the first game of the team toughest stretch of the season as they face three top 25 teams.
The Longhorns (9-2-1, 4-0 Big 12) set the tone early, out shooting the Tech, 16-2, and forced four corner kicks in the first period. Freshman Beth Lippert (Woodinville, Wash.) made six saves in the first half to keep the game close and send the Red Raiders to the locker room down 2-0. Lippert, who entered the game ranked 3rd in the Big 12 with 52 saves, has now recorded five or more saves in her last seven games.
Texas remained in control of the game in the second half out shooting the Red Raiders (2-11, 0-5 Big 12), 14-2, and adding three goals to go up by a score of 5-0. Sophomore Jordan Wicker (Euless, Texas) scored her second goal of the season on a 40-yard free kick to spoil the shutout for the Longhorns. Tech's trapping defense forced Texas offside five times in the match.
Texas Tech will battle the 6th ranked Texas A&M Aggies on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. in College Station, Texas, before returning home to face the 23rd ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers on Friday, Oct 18, at 7 p.m.
