LUBBOCK, Texas - Today the Texas Tech men's tennis team announced the signing of three recruits for next season: Lubbock native Mitchell Anderson, Diederick de Groot of Holland and Devin Wakeford of South Africa.
Anderson and de Groot will enter the fall as freshmen while Wakeford will register as a junior. Each player brings to the court what head coach Tim Siegel expects from his players.
"Diederik is probably one of the most talented players I have ever signed," said head coach Tim Siegel. "I expect him to come in and play in the top of the line-up as a freshman. Devin has two years of college experience playing for one of the top two teams in NAIA. He has a very good all-around game. Mitchell Andersen has a good chance to help us down the road, especially in doubles. It is great to have someone from Lubbock join the squad."
The Holland native de Groot is currently the No. 1 singles player in juniors. Wakeford has played the No. 3 position for Auburn-Montgomery which is the No. 2 NAIA school in the nation.
Siegel looks to ink two more by mid-summer.
The Red Raiders will return to action next fall at the new McLeod Tennis Center on the Texas Tech campus.
