Golfers Battle Wind Gusts At Big 12 Tourney

LUBBOCK, Texas - Baylor shot a two-round score of 606 to take a three stroke lead after the first day of the Big 12 Men's Golf Tournament at Prairie Dunes Country Club.Scores were unusually high after golfers battled wind gusts of up to 30 mph. The day began with temperatures in the 40s before warming up to low 60s for the afternoon session.
Texas is in second place with a 609, followed by Colorado in third with a 614. Oklahoma is fourth at 616 and defending champion Oklahoma State is fifth at 620.
Baylor's Worth Williams holds the individual lead with a 144 after shooting identical 72s in each of the first two rounds. Oklahoma State's Par Nilsson is second at 149. Baylor's Jimmy Walker and Texas' Jason Hartwick are tied for third at 151.
The only par on the day was recorded by Texas' John Klauk with a 70 in the second round. Scores improved after the first round when only 21 players shot below an 80. In round two, 36 players shot better than 80.
The Red Raiders continue to advance in the pack as Mark Hull and David Bolen tied for 21st place at 157. Kyle Willmann moves into the 53rd place at 168, while teammate Brad Jacobson finishes the first day of play in 56th place at 170. Trey Pyka rounds out the Raiders in 59th place with a two-round total of 173.
The Big 12 Men's Golf Tournament wraps up Tuesday with the final 18 holes. Tee times begin at 8 a.m. off the No. 1 and No. 10 tees.
