LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's tennis team ended the day with a victory over The University of Texas at San Antonio, 5-2. The Red Raiders improved its record to 6-10 overall and 1-3 in the Big 12.
Tech's doubles duo of Richard Crabtree and Ben Gudzelak were defeated by Andy Murillo and Fred Darmont of UTSA, 8-5. The duo lost for the first time in four matches. Crabtree and Gudzelak are posting a 5-7 overall record and 3-1 in league play. The Red Raiders also dropped the two other remaining positions to UTSA in doubles today. Tech's Borut Martincevic and Chris Drumm lost, 8-4, and Seth Atkins and Scotty George lost, 8-1.
In singles, Crabtree snapped a four-match winning streak as he defeated Darmont in three sets, 6-4, 6-7, 7-6. Since his injury last week, John Walker returned to win his first match in singles against UTSA's Brett Ueale, 6-4, 6-1. Senior Borut Martincevic delivered a defeat to UTSA's Murillo, 6-1, 6-4. The Red Raiders won five of six singles matches with Tech's only loss coming to Holger Dimster whom defeated Chris Drumm, 6-0, 6-1.
Lone senior Borut Martincevic and the rest of the men's tennis team will host New Mexico State for the final home match of the season on Sunday, April 1 beginning at 10 a.m. at the Texas Tech Rec Courts. A t-shirt will be given to the first dozen fans in attendance.
