Women's Tennis Falls To No. 48 Kansas

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team battled conference opponent Kansas today at the Nautilus Fitness Center in Lubbock. The Red Raiders fell to the 48th-ranked Jayhawks, 5-2.
Tech started out the day by winning the doubles point. The deadly duo of Irina Tereschenko and Beverly Dawson knocked off the twins from Lubbock, Courtney and Kristen Steinbock, 8-4 in the No. 1 position. The combo improves to 10-2 overall and 5-2 in Big 12 action. Tech fell in the No. 2 position, but rebounded in the third position with Barbara Schraml and Kendall Brooks defeating Lisa and Cheryl Mallaih, 8-6 improving to 3-4 overall and 2-4 in league play.
In singles action Tech dropped the first two positions, but picked up its second point of the day in the No. 3 position. Dawson a sophomore defeated Courtney Steinbock in three-sets, 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 to improve to 5-5 and 3-4 in the Big 12. With the victory she snaps a four-match losing streak.
Kansas advances to 10-6, 4-3 in the Big 12, while Tech drops to 6-6 and 2-5 in league play.
The Red Raiders swing back into action tomorrow against 49th-ranked Nebraska at the Hillcrest Country Club or the Nautilus Fitness Center at 90th and Memphis in Lubbock (depending upon weather) at 11 a.m.
