
Red Raiders Fall To Wildcats, 73-54

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) - Kelvin Howell scored a career-high 21 points and had 20 rebounds as Kansas State beat Texas Tech 73-54 Sunday for the Wildcats first win in a month.
Howell scored 11 points, six of them unanswered, in the final six minutes of the game to help the Wildcats extend a three-point halftime lead to 19 in the second half.
Kansas State (9-14, 3-9 Big 12) broke a seven-game skid to win its first home game since Jan. 16, when the Wildcats beat then-No. 20 Missouri 80-59.
Texas Tech (8-14, 2-9 Big 12) has lost seven straight games.
Kansas State started the second half with an 11-2 run to take a 10-point lead with 16:58 to go. The Red Raiders cut it to six with Johnny Phillips' bucket, but Kansas State stormed back on an 8-0 run.
Larry Reid made a shot and a free throw to give the Wildcats a 14-point lead with 11:45 to go. Once again, Texas Tech cut the lead down to eight only to have the Wildcats fire back.
Kansas State hit 9-of-13 free throws and made 18-of-30 from the floor in the second half.
Matt Siebrandt had 13 points, Phineas Atchison had 12 and Reid had 11 points and six assists for the Wildcats.
Andy Ellis led the Red Raiders with 16 points and Andre Emmett added 12.
