Tech Hosts Red Raider Classic

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech track and field team will host the Red Raider Classic this weekend at the ATC on the Tech campus, featuring 15 collegiate teams and almost 400 athletes at the two-day event.
The Red Raider and head coach Wes Kittley will be tuning up for next week's Big 12 Championships in Lincoln, Neb. Tech has already qualified three men, Gezachw Yossef, Reggie Hill and Michael Beasley, and the women's 4x400-meter relay, provisionally for the NCAA Indoor Championships set for March 9-10 in Fayetteville, Ark.
Tech has 52 athletes entered in the 30-event meet, which begins Friday at 4:30 p.m., and starts against on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
Senior Leigh Daniel will run in her first home meet of the season and the first in Lubbock in 10 months. The Lubbock native will participate in the mile run and the 5000 meters. The 5000 will be run at 6 p.m. Friday evening, with the mile run at 1:50 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
Daniel, as well as women's sprinters Tami Zachary, Monique Wright-Cruse and Tiffany Green will be looking to qualify to the indoor championships. Men's sprinter Saidric Williams will also be looking to qualify and accompany Hill to the national meet.
Tech will travel to Lincoln next weekend for the conference championships, and then will participate in the NCAA Last Chance meet March 2-3 in Ames, Iowa before the NCAA Championships.
