LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Red Raiders track squad travels to the NCAA Championships at the Tyson Center on the campus of the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville this weekend.
Gezachw Yossef, Ngozi Iwu, Michael Beasley and Shannon Spaulding will compete in the national championships representing the Red and Black.
Yossef ran in the mile run at the NCAA Championships last season, finishing eighth in a time of 4:04.11. The senior set a new school record in last week's Cyclone National Track & Field Qualifier, automatically qualifying for the national championships with a time of 4:00.92.
Iwu also qualified last week at the Cyclone Qualifier with a time of 53.67 in the 400 meters, only the third time this season she had run in the 400. Spaulding had previously qualified and improved her time in the 800 to 2:07.91.
Yossef ran an automatic qualifying time of 4:00.92 in the mile run at the Cyclone National Track & Field Qualifier in Ames, Iowa, last weekend, breaking his own school record in the process by almost two full seconds.
Iwu posted a school record time of 53.67 in winning the 400 meters, qualifying her provisionally for the national championships, as well.
Tech will have a small group of athletes competing in next week's NCAA Championships, as the rest of the squad prepares for the outdoor season that begins March 15-16 in College Station, Texas.
