LUBBOCK, Texas - Andy Ellis scored 25 points and Kasib Powell added 18 as Texas Tech defeated Louisiana-Lafayette 89-72 Monday night for the Red Raiders' fifth straight victory.
Ellis scored nine straight points for the Raiders (8-1) in a three-minute stretch in the second half. The Rajun' Cajuns, who trailed by as much as 24 points, cut the lead to 11 with less than two minutes to play.
Pawel Storozynski had 14 points and nine rebounds for the Red Raiders.
Four players on Tech's bench combined for 24 points, nine assists and only one turnover.
Antoine Landry and Brad Boyd scored 11 points each and Shea Whiting added 10 for the Rajun' Cajuns.
Louisiana-Lafayette (5-4) played sloppy during much of the game, committing 23 turnovers and sending Tech players to the foul line often. Tech shot 34-of-44 from the line.
Both teams started sluggishly but Tech went on a 20-6 run midway through the first half after trailing briefly early in the game. The Rajun' Cajuns struggled on offense, often just running down the court and taking quick shots from the corners.
The Red Raiders, whose sole loss was to Sam Houston in late November, led 39-24 at halftime.
