The Intercollegiate Tennis Association Released its final South Central region rankings for the 2001 fall season today with Royce Ramey and Ben Gudzelak earning singles and doubles rankings.
Senior co-captain Ramey (Richardson, Texas) is the highest ranked Red Raider at 14th in the South Central region in singles, after a solid performance during the fall season that included a win over John Doran, who ranked 370th in the world, at the USTA futures. The only other Tech player ranked in the top 30 is sophomore Ben Gudzelak (Halifax, England) who ranks 27th.
The doubles team of Gudzelak and senior co-captain Richard Crabtree (Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire) is ranked ninth, while the duo of Ramey and Devin Wakeford (Cape Town, South Africa) finished the 2001 fall season ranked 15th.
Men's Tennis coach Tim Siegel is pleased with the rankings noting that his team is playing in one of the strongest regions and is looking forward to the spring season and the addition of two more players that should give the Tech team added depth.
The men's team will be off the court until mid-January when they open the 2002 spring season in Houston, Texas, at the Rice Invitational on the 18-20.
