Texas Tech Men's Golf Struggles in Second Round

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Red Raiders finished the second round of play at The Nelson tournament in Palo Alto, Calif., shooting a four-over par 572 for ninth place, 12 strokes behind tournament leader Washington University. Washington is in the lead with a 16-under par 552, gaining eight strokes on the competition to move from second to first place.
Tech senior Kyle Willmann and sophomore Brian Smith are tied for 22nd, shooting an even par 142, dropping from the top 15 after Friday's first round. Teammate David Bolen moved up from Friday's 42nd place finish shooting a two-over par 144 to tie for 35th.
Junior Brooks Kelly shot a three-over par 145 to tie for 39th, while sophomore Brad Jacobson finished the second round in 51st place shooting a two day total of 147.
After the second day of competition, Brad Heaven of Toledo and two Washington teammates Brock Mackenzie and Corey Prugh are tied for first place in the individual round, shooting a five-under par 137.
The final round of The Nelson tournament resumes play tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m.
