LUBBOCK, Texas-The Texas Tech Men's Tennis team will head to Midland today to compete in the Midland Invitational Tournament beginning tomorrow morning.
Tech's co-captain and senior, Royce Ramey, lost to Miguel Gallardo-Valles (Mexico), 6-4, 6-3 in the UTSA's Pro-Tournament today. He had an upset yesterday over John Doran (Ireland) who was ranked No. 370 in the world.
"Ramey really showed he is ready for big time tennis play," said Coach Tim Siegel. "He had an upset defeat over Doran yesterday and played really well today against a ranked tennis player...I think he will be ready to compete this weekend in Midland and the Regionals starting next week."
Tech's other player, Devin Wakeford, will also play this weekend. The Midland Invitational only allows each team to send two players. There will be 18 players and eight teams and all Texas schools will compete.
Ramey and Wakeford will play at 8:30 a.m. Friday morning.
