LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech took the lead with a 14-0 run before halftime and went on to beat Baylor 68-58 on Tuesday night, knocking the Bears from the ranks of the undefeated.
With the loss by Baylor (12-1, 1-1 Big 12), the only undefeated NCAA I-A teams are No. 1 Stanford (13-0), No. 12 Georgetown (13-0) and No. 24 Boston College (11-0). The Bears missed matching their best record since 1911-12, when they won all 13 games they played.
Andy Ellis had 15 points to lead Texas Tech (7-6, 1-1), while Marcus Shropshire and Jamal Brown had 13 each.
The Red Raiders held Baylor scoreless for six minutes late in the first half, scoring 14 straight points. They led 40-32 at halftime, and never trailed in the second half.
When Baylor got within 50-46, Texas Tech responded with an 11-1 run to earn their biggest lead of the game with 6:30 left.
Greg Davis, Wendell Greenleaf and DeMarcus Minor had 12 points each for Baylor, which played an easy non-conference schedule and was playing on the road for only the third time this season.
Baylor had maintained its undefeated record in the Big 12 opener, scoring the first 12 points Saturday and going on to beat Colorado 61-56. Also last weekend, the Red Raiders lost their league opener 94-82 to fifth-ranked Kansas.
