Tech Track Has Another Good Day at Houston Invitational

LUBBOCK, Texas - Senior Tami Zachary and freshman Saidric Williams led the Texas Tech track team in the final day of the Houston Invitational on Saturday, both finishing second in the 60 meters in the 12-team meet.
Zachary ran 7.53 in the 60m finals after a 7.51 in the preliminaries on Friday. Teammates Tiffany Green and Monique Wright-Cruse also competed in the 60m finals, with Green running 7.61 for fourth place and Wright-Cruse finishing fifth with a time of 7.63.
The Tech women also took second in the 4x400-meter relay, with Melonie Barrow, Rachelle Evans, Ngozi Iwu and D'Andria Brigham combining for a time of 3:45.81.
Iwu posted a time of 56.21 for fifth in the 400m final. Wright-Cruse also took fifth in the 200m final with a mark of 25.01.
Sophomore Megan Schuessler came in fifth in the women's shot put with a mark of 41-11.25.
Williams ran the second fastest preliminary 60m time on Friday behind teammate Reggie Hill, and took second in the finals of the event with a mark of 6.83. Williams also took fifth in the 200m finals with a mark of 22.54.
Hill, Antonio Franklin, Justin Ritter and Orin Darrington combined to run 3:18.41 in the men's 4x400-meter relay, finishing fifth in the event, barely one second behind third-place winner Texas.
Sophomore Mike Beasley finished fifth in the high jump, clearing 6-8.25, while sophomore transfer Olavi Paavo was seventh in the high jump with a mark of 6-6.25.
The Red Raiders next meet will be the Texas Tech Open on the new indoor track at the ATC on the Tech campus on Friday and Saturday, February 2-3.
