The Texas Tech men's tennis team will travel to Tulsa, Okla., this weekend to compete in the Tulsa Invitational. The team will follow the leadership of co-captains senior Borut Martincevic and junior transfer Royce Raney.
The tournament will kick-off on Fri., Sept. 29, and will conclude Sun., Oct. 1. Tech will travel as a team, but the tournament will be played individually.
"This is an opportunity for two walk-ons, Seth Atkins and Chris Drumm, to show their abilities this fall," coach Tim Siegel said. "I am really happy the way Clay (Estes) has been practicing and I want to see him compete against some tough competition."
The Red Raiders announced the 2000 - 01 captains today. The coaches chose the captains based on several different qualifications.
"Royce is a junior transfer, who brings a tremendous work ethic and cares a lot about the team," Siegel said about junior Illinois transfer. "He brings a new enthusiasm to the team. I feel the team was lacking a little last season and Raney will helps us over come that."
"Borut is a quiet leader. He never complains, he just comes to play everyday," Siegel said about Martincevic.
